About My Practice

Therapy Sessions

I primarily work with adults of all ages, 18 and up.  I provide a safe and supportive therapeutic setting.

I offer 55-minute individual counseling and psychotherapy sessions. Sessions typically take place once a week. The length of treatment can vary widely depending upon each person’s needs – but in general, I work with people in a deep way with the patterns and conditioning that underlie their presenting life challenges.  This does not necessarily mean years of therapy – sometimes dramatic change happens in just a few months.

I also offer group therapy sessions focused on interpersonal topics such as co-dependence, conflict, and social anxiety.  Click here to go to Group Therapy for current offerings.   Group therapy sessions are generally held in the evenings and are 2-hour sessions once a week.  Group therapy participants may or may not be individual therapy clients. (Please note that group therapy sessions have been paused until further notice due to COVID-19.)

My Approach to Therapy

Therapy is not “one-size-fits-all”.  I take the time to get to know you, and to help you know me, so we can establish a comfortable working relationship.  Safety and connection are the foundations for healing and growth.

I don’t try to fit you into a label and use generic techniques.  I endeavor to understand you as a whole person, not just your “issues”.  This will guide me in working more effectively with you – to help you overcome the difficulties you are experiencing, and to assist you in becoming more aware of and empowered by your inner strengths and wisdom through the process.

This “whole person” approach is based on the understanding that we are not our problems. Our problems are symptoms of something that is preventing us from being the fullest and best version of who we truly are. I work with clients in the “here and now”, which includes how the past may be affecting what is happening in the present.

I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and as such, my approach to working with clients is “trauma-informed”. Trauma may include abuse, emotional neglect, abandonment, and loss, to name a few. Many of us have patterns of thoughts, feelings and behavior that were formed as a response to traumatic experiences - adaptations that were necessary for the original circumstances - but may be limiting our ability to live fully in the present. I am trained in working with a “trauma lens” that helps clients heal more fully and get “unstuck” from limiting patterns.

EMDR

(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

I am a trained EMDR therapist. EMDR may be an effective approach for certain clients. EMDR is a specific treatment approach that can be effective in working with traumatic experiences and the negative emotions and beliefs that stem from those experiences. You can learn more about EMDR here.
